Spicy Durban Mince & KOO Baked Beans Curry

Spicy Durban Mince & KOO Baked Beans Curry

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg mutton or beef mince
  • 2 cans of KOO Baked Beans in Hot Curry Sauce
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 large onion finely sliced
  • 1 tbsp ginger/garlic paste
  • 3 sticks cinnamon
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 green elachi, 1 black elachi
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 tsp whole jeera
  • 1 tbsp chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp Kashmiri masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Dhania powder
  • 1 tsp jeera powder
  • 3 sprigs of thyme
  • 2 sprigs of mint chopped
  • 3 sprigs of curry leaves
  • 4 green chillies
  • 2 medium tomatoes grated
  • Salt to taste

Kitchen gadgets:

Spices: whole jeera, chilli powder, Kashmiri masala, dhania powder, jeera powder

Method:

  1. Braise onion in hot oil until golden brown. Add ginger/garlic paste and fry for 30 seconds
  2. Then add the whole spices (cinnamon, bay leaves, star anise, both the elaichi, garlic cloves and whole jeera) and fry for 30 seconds.
  3. Add the chilli powder, masala, turmeric, dhania, and jeera powder, mix and fry for 30 seconds
  4. Add mince with the thyme, mint, curry leaves, green chillies, tomatoes and salt. Mix well, so that the mince is well coated. Cook for about half an hour, you may have to add a little warm water to aid the cooking process
  5. Add the KOO Baked Beans in Hot Curry Sauce and cook for a further 5 minutes
  6. Garnish with garam masala and dhania. Serve with hot rice, roti, or bread
