Mince & Chakalaka Lasagne

Mince & Chakalaka Lasagne

Ingredients:

White Sauce

  • 75 g margarine
  • 660 ml milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 30 g margarine
  • 1 can KOO Chakalaka and Butternut
  • 100 g KOO Tomato Paste
  • 500 g beef mince
  • 8 x spinach lasagna sheets
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 15 ml paprika
  • 5 ml Italian herbs
  • 125 ml water
  • 30 ml sugar
  • 5 ml salt
  • 150 g grated cheddar cheese/ mozzarella

Method:

  1. In a pot, over medium heat, melt the margarine. Then add the beef mince and brown slightly.
  2. Add the garlic, paprika, herbs, salt and water and sauté; for 2-3 minutes. Then add in the chakalaka, tomato paste and sugar and cook over a low heat for about 5 minutes.
  3. Place the lasagna sheets in boiling water and cook until al dente. For the white sauce: Heat the margarine in a saucepan. Once melted, remove from the heat and mix through the flour to create the roux.
  4. Place the saucepan back onto the heat and add in the milk while whisking vigorously. Season with salt and pepper. In an oven dish, place half the mince at the bottom, top with 1/3 of the cheese and top with 4x lasagna sheets.
  5. Repeat this process. Lastly, pour over the white sauce, top with the remaining cheese and sprinkle over Italian herbs. Bake in the oven for 20 - 30 minutes or until the top has gone golden brown in colour.
