We welcome with open arms, and excited palettes, the creative, passionate, quirkalicious and talented Alice Taylor-Surridge; the latest addition to the KOO kitchen.
Alice knew from a young age that in order to live a satisfied life, she would need to find a career that offered her creativity and freedom. “One of the biggest frustrations for me is being a creative spirit without an outlet.” So when the idea of cooking as a career crept into her life in her early 20s, she knew she had found her calling. “I felt like a sculptor who has discovered clay after a lifetime of wood. Food is my material and my hands, heart and soul are my tools.”
For Alice, feeding someone is an intimate act. Great food must appeal to all 5 senses. The sound of a tin being opened, the smell of fresh fruit, the feeling as it enters your mouth, the sight of your favourite dish, and of course, the deliciousness in its taste. “There’s always a 6th ingredient” admits Alice, “and that’s who you share it with. There is a real sense of happiness that comes from sharing. It’s not just about what you eat, but who you enjoy it with.”
We’re so excited about having Alice on board; togetherness is a big part of who we are. We asked Alice to describe her style of cooking and what makes her food uniquely hers. “I’m quite haphazard with my cooking but I like to call it organised chaos. I know what I’m doing and what works with what. Everything is bright, colourful and loaded with flavour. Cooking like this yields beautiful results, and just like KOO, I want people to experience only the best.”
“I love the shades, aromas and textures of our fresh fruit and vegetables – we really have the best ingredients in this country. And paired up with the huge range of KOO products, it’s really not hard to whip up something amazing in any kitchen, at any time of day.”
Everyone has a KOO story. Alice’s fondest memory is of her eldest sister, now an established career woman, sitting on the kitchen floor as a toddler, pouring a bowl of KOO Baked Beans over her head. Alice and her sisters also used to remove the labels on all the KOO tins in the cupboard so that their mom wouldn’t know if she was opening peaches for dinner, or beans. They hoped for peaches every night, but whatever the outcome, dinner was always tasty and delicious.
Excited to be a part of the KOO family, Alice wants to share her love for all things food. “KOO is food, KOO is real and KOO is mouth-wateringly good, the essence of the brand is very close to my heart and I am honoured to be apart of the team”.
Join an energetic Alice on the Expresso show as she whips up some lip-smacking recipes across the KOO range.
