Drive, determination, dedication and of course delicious dishes - Cebo Lungile Zondi, the winner of the KOO Recipe Challenge, is proof that dreams do come true. Throughout her remarkable journey thus far her passion and enthusiasm for food shines through. We have every confidence that a bright future awaits this talented young lady. Here is her inspiring story, in her own words:
"As I was busy with my assignment which required me to write the story behind my career,
to explain where my passion and love for cooking all started, I realised it all began with KOO.
As we were growing up, my friends and I used to gang up and play 'weddings' over the weekend.
I used to be the catering master, and each and every one of us would have to contribute something to cook for the wedding.
One would bring things to make fire, another one would bring the rice, another one would bring veggies, oil, spices and curry powder etc.
(Mind you everything was stolen from our houses).
I used to contribute KOO Baked Beans, because my aunt used to buy twelve cans of KOO Baked Beans that would last us for the whole month at home. I would cook for the wedding and we would celebrate until the sun went down. Unfortunately when we got back home we would have to explain the mysterious disappearance of the cans. My aunt would beat me with a wet cloth for stealing the groceries from our house to play games. But the wet cloth didn't stop me from doing what I wanted to do in life.
Today I am the KOO Recipe Challenge champion because I followed my dreams. I am glad I made history even though it started the wrong way (stealing from my family), but it proves that everything happens for a reason. As a young chef I would like to say never stop dreaming, no matter how bad the beginnings may be, passion will always find its way to success! Thank you KOO for fulfilling my dreams! I am determined to become one of the most phenomenal chefs in South Africa."
